Academic Writing and Discussion in English

AWADE Newsletter

The AWADE Newsletter is an annual publication produced by the Academic Writing and Discussion in English (AWADE) program of Waseda University’s Global Education Center. Through this publication, AWADE aims to promote evidence-based teaching and program management while facilitating the sharing of the program’s collective expertise. The newsletter also serves to provide an additional publication venue for AWADE lecturers.

Given the practical and applied focus of this program-level publication, submissions are brief and focused. They are written with the aim of positively impacting the program going forward. While the newsletter’s articles are not formally categorized, they generally fall into one of three types:

  1. My-share presentations
  2. Issue and solution(s) in focus
  3. Reflective practice reports

In addition to published articles, the newsletter includes a letter from the coordinators that summarizes the AWADE academic year and outlines future directions.

All submitted articles undergo extensive editorial review, with all AWADE coordinators serving as editors. A brief single-blind peer review is also conducted before publication. The newsletter generally follows APA 7th Edition style. One edition is published for each academic year (e.g., AY2024 Issue), with publication occurring in the spring of the following academic year (e.g., The AWADE Newsletter – AY2024 Issue is published in May 2025).

Original work is expected and authors confirm this upon submission. The newsletter’s articles, however, can be regarded as working papers, allowing authors to build upon them in future publications.
